France's Jules Bianchi was the leading ART Grand Prix car in a one-two result for the team in first practice at Brands Hatch. The championship leader set the quickest time on the Indy circuit to narrowly beat team-mate Valtteri Bottas by 34 thousandths of a second. Spain's Roberto Merhi completed the top three.
One man not competing in Kent this weekend is Monaco's Stefano Coletti after the Prema Powerteam driver was injured whilst competing in GP2's feature race at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday. On the track, Biachi's best effort came in the form of 41.734 as Sam Bird led the way for British honours in fourth place.
With Bianchi and Bottas locking out the top two positions for ART and Merhi's Manor in third, Mücke Motorsport covered the rest of the top six with Bird ahead of Christian Vietoris and Alex Sims.
Mika Mäki confirmed that two Finns made the top ten as Brendon Hartley finished the highest of the Carlin drivers in eighth. Vernay and Wittmann were classified ninth and tenth.
Qualifying at Brands Hatch will last for 55 minutes, five less than practice, and begins at 5pm local time (BST / GMT +1).
