France's Jules Bianchi has extended his championship lead by winning the first race of the weekend at the Nürburgring. It was a dominant performance by the ART Grand Prix team, which locked out all three podium positions, with Britain's Sam Bird in fourth for Mücke Motorsport.
Only at the start, Jules Bianchi had to battle for his leading position when Valtteri Bottas turned up alongside him. After that, the Frenchman pulled clear and scored his sixth victory of the season with a margin of 13.722 seconds. Next to Bianchi and Bottas, who came home second for the fourth time this season, Esteban Gutierrez made it onto the podium for the first time in his Formula 3 career.
"It wasn't that easy," said winner Bianchi. "I was pushing from the start to build up a margin over the drivers behind me. My car was fantastic once again and I am happy having won the race. Tomorrow, I will start from eighth place and I will try to score some points. My 28 points' lead in the drivers' standings is quite huge, but there are still nine races to go. Now, we have to keep on working like this, there is no time to relax."
