The ART Grand Prix team dominated qualifying to place its cars in the first three positions for the start of Race 1 at the Nürburgring on Saturday. Jules Bianchi heads the grid after Friday's half-hour session and is almost three tenths of a second quicker than team-mate Esteban Gutierrez with the third car of Valtteri Bottas third.
With ART locking out the top three places, championship leader Bianchi moved from seventh in practice to storm to pole with a lap time of 1.22.823, comfortably the fastest of the weekend so far in Germany.
The leading British driver is fourth and in the shape of Sam Bird for Mücke Motorsport as Finland's Mika Mäki rounds out the top five for Signature-Plus. Alexander Sims confirmed that two British drivers qualified in the top six positions and will set off ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay.
There was disappointment for Christian Vietoris - second in the series to Bianchi and fastest in morning practice - as eighth place was the best the 20-year-old Mücke driver could do on one of his home tracks.
Race 1 will commence at 11:40am local time (BST +1/GMT +2) at the Nürburgring on Saturday.
