For the second time in a row, Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport) has managed to win a Formula 3 Euro Series race on Sunday. At the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring, the 20-year old German claimed victory from Jean Karl Vernay (Signature) and Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix).
In an action-packed race, marked by three safety-car interventions, Atte Mustonen finished fourth, scoring the best result so far for his team Motopark Academy that only came to join the Formula 3 Euro Series this year. After six rounds, Bianchi remains points' leader in the world's toughest junior racing category.
After the start, pole-sitter Sam Bird (Mücke Motorsport) led the field into the first corner. The Briton held on to his first place until lap five, but then Alexander Sims missed his braking point and collided with his compatriot. Bird retired and Roberto Merhi (Manor Motorsport) took over first place. Soon after that, the Spaniard was overtaken by Christian Vietoris, who had to defend his place from Jean Karl Vernay almost throughout the race. In the closing stages, Vietoris was finally able to pull clear as Jules Bianchi put massive pressure on Vernay in the battle for second.
