The first race of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring, which was marked by an interruption due to rain, brought victory for Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) from Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport) and Stefano Coletti (Prema Powerteam).

Bianchi took the lead after the restart that occurred following an accident in the first corner and a subsequent intervention of the safety car. After that he drove a safe victory home. For the points' leader in the world's toughest junior racing category, it was the second season win in the fifth race of the year.

The race started with a mass collision that forced five driers to retire. At that time, rookie Alexander Sims was leading the race, but at the restart, Bianchi went past and pulled away. Sims was involved in a battle with Stefano Coletti, Esteban Gutierrez (ART Grand Prix) and Roberto Merhi (Manor Motorsport), in which the British rookie eventually prevailed. For the Mücke driver, it was his maiden podium finish in the Formula 3 Euro Series. Stefano Coletti completed the podium.

Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix): "My start wasn't very good, but my restart after the safety car was all the better. After that, I tried to pull a gap over the drivers behind me and I succeeded. My car was good and I am still the points' leader in the Formula 3 Euro Series, I am happy with that."

Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport): "Starting the race once more after the interruption was strange, just for one more lap behind the safety car. At the restart after the accident on the opening lap, I wasn't good and Jules went past. But the main thing is that I have my first podium finish in the Formula 3 Euro Series."
