Britain's Alexander Sims has claimed his first pole position by over two tenths of a second at the Norisring. The Mücke Motorsport driver will start at the front from France's Jules Bianchi, as the ART teams locks out positions two to four with Adrien Tambay and Esteban Gutierrez completing their trio.
Qualifying started in the rain. In the second half of the 30 minutes' session, the 2.3 kilometres long track around the concrete stand in Nuremberg dried out more and more. Accordingly, the fastest times were set in the closing stages. The names on top of the leaderboard changed all the time, before Alexander Sims remained in front. After Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix, 0:56.268 minutes), who was fastest qualifier at the EuroSpeedway, Sims is already the second rookie driver to set the fastest lap time in qualifying so far this year.
Alexander Sims (Mücke Motorsport): "I am happy with my maiden pole position in the Formula 3 Euro Series and the second pole of my entire career. However, the bonus point that we get for the fastest time in qualifying, means almost even more to me, because it is my first point of the year. I hope that this pole position is the start of a successful run, after things weren't really going well so far."
