In the home race of his Berlin-based team Mücke Motorsport, Christian Vietoris celebrated his first victory of the season in the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, the German won with a margin of 4.819 seconds from Spaniard Roberto Merhi (Manor Motorsport). Sam Bird (Mücke Motorsport) took the chequered flag in third place.
Bird and Merhi are now jointly second in the points' standings, where Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix) remains in the lead. The Frenchman finished 14th in the fourth season round of the world's strongest junior racing series after a jump start and a subsequent drive-through penalty.
At the start, Vietoris took the lead and drove an undisputed lights-to-flag victory home. Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix), who was running in second place in the early stages of the race, had to come in for a drive-through penalty for jumping the start and only finished 13th. Brendon Hartley (Carlin Motorsport), test and replacement driver of the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 team came fourth, followed by Henkie Waldschmidt (SG Formula) and Mika Mäki (Signature).
Christian Vietoris (Mücke Motorsport): "I am happy with my first victory of the season. Following my rather poor qualifying with 13th place, I still scored some points this weekend. In the end, these points can still turn out to be important."
