In qualifying for the third season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the 3.478 kilometres long EuroSpeedway Lausitz, Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix, 1:31.308 minutes) set the fastest lap time. His margin over second-placed Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix, 1:31.725 minutes) was 0.417 seconds.

Atte Mustonen (Motopark Academy, 1:32.084 minutes) and Jean Karl Vernay (Signature, 1:32.084 minutes) will be lining up on the second row of the grid for today's race. Points leader Stefano Coletti (Prema Powerteam, 1:32.188 minutes) ended up in 16th place.

For 19-year old Bottas, it is his maiden pole position in the Formula 3 Euro Series. He coped best with the difficult conditions at the rain-soaked track. Afterwards he said: "Great, my maiden pole position in Formula 3. It was clear that I would make it one day, but I didn't quite expect it already in my second F3-qualifying ever. Weather conditions weren't easy, the ideal line changed all the time."

Qualifying had to be interrupted twice. Red flags came out for the first time after novice Johan Jokinen (Kolles & Heinz Union, 1:35.237 minutes) had spun. A few minutes later, Mika Mäki (Signature, 1:43.480 minutes) hit the pit wall and damaged his Dallara-Volkswagen, which caused the second caution.
