
The first victory of the 2009 Formula 3 Euro Series went to Stefano Coletti (Prema Powerteam). The 20-year old Monegasque overtook Sam Bird (Mücke Motorsport) in the first corner at the 4.574 kilometres long Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg and motored on to win the race - his maiden victory in the Formula 3 Euro Series. Spaniard Roberto Merhi (Manor Motorsport) claimed second place from Bird. In the points' standings, Coletti is leading after one round with ten points, followed by Merhi and Bird.
On the first few metres, Sam Bird still held on to first place, but Stefano Coletti, who had had a better start, went past the Mücke driver on the inside of the first corner. Roberto Merhi also overtook Bird on the opening lap. In this order, the trio crossed the finish line after 16 laps. Mika Mäki (Signature) came home as the best-placed Volkswagen driver in fourth place from Jules Bianchi (ART Grand Prix).
Finnish driver Atte Mustonen (Motopark Academy) provided his Motopark Academy team a good debut in the Formula 3 Euro Series, he finished the race in eighth place. As a result, he scores one point and will start tomorrow's race from pole position.
