Rob Wickens has signed a deal to join Kolles & Heinz Union for this season's Formula 3 Euro Series. The Canadian, who was the fastest driver in the first Formula 2 test session at Snetterton on Wednesday, will be joining the team - new for 2009 - as team-mate to Holland's Carlo van Dam.
Having competed in selected races last year, 20-year-old Wickens will be driving his first full season in the championship in this year, starting at Hockenheim next Sunday. Both Wickens and van Dam will be looking to impress as the outfit beings its first campaign with Werner Heinz and former F1 team boss Colin Kolles at the helm.
Toronto-born Wickens' previous experience includes stints in the North American Formula Atlantic championship - in which he placed fourth in the final standings - and the Formula BMW USA series, in which he claimed the title on his second attempt. He remains a member of Red Bull's young driver development programme.
