24 March 2009 / Results

Finland's Atte Mustonen finished atop the timesheets of this week's first day of Valencia testing. The Motopark Academy driver's best lap time of 1.27.713 was a tenth of a second quicker than second placed Roberto Merhi for Manor Motorsport.

The ART of Jules Bianchi, having been quickest in Estoril on Thursday, finished up third with New Zealand's Brendon Hartley in fourth spot for Carlin. Sam Bird's Mücke Motorsport entry completed the top five; Britain's best placed driver finished the session with a time of 1.28.425, seven tenths of a second off the leading pace. Two more British hopefuls lapped the track, as team-mate Alexander Sims finished his session 13th with SG Formula's Jon Lancaster three places further back.

Further down the grid were famous names of the younger variety with Cecotto and Tambay finishing 18th and 23rd respectively. The developing Kolles & Heinz Union team were 26th and 28th, with Dutchman Carlo van Dam their leading driver.

Testing will continue in Spain on Tuesday.
