Heinz keen to support young talents

Werner Heinz, half of the Kolles & Heinz Union team, is dedicated to helping young talents progress their way up the motorsport ladder; this follows the decision with team partner Colin Kolles to make use of the skills possessed by men such as Japanese F3 champion Carlo van Dam (pictured above).

"I want to help young drivers," Heinz told the F3 Euro Series website. "Finding enough sponsors is getting more and more difficult. "With Dr. Colin Kolles I have found a partner who is based nearby and already has the infrastructure for a motor racing team."

The team makes its debut in the F3 Euroseries this year, powered by a Volkswagen engine: "We want to be the German Volkswagen team on the Formula 3 grid," Heinz continued. "However, it was also important that we succeeded in signing Mike Krack as Team Manager and engineer, a man with Formula 1 experience under his belt."

Somewhat a talent spotter, Heinz has his priorities set going into the season: "I want to help the gifted young drivers making another step up the motor racing ladder, not just the drivers I have signed," continued Heinz. "Quite obviously, it isn't the goal of our team to be back-markers although we haven't set ourselves the goal to achieve a certain position - we just want the biggest possible success. By signing Dutchman Carlo van Dam as our number one driver, we have created a good basis when it comes to the driver line-up."

During his career, Heinz has successfully promoted a wide range of talents both on and off the racetrack, including drivers Nick Heidfeld and Tom Kristensen, German comedian Mario Barth and former light-heavyweight World Champion boxer Henry Maske.
