Mirocha and Cecotto join HBR Motorsport

HBR Motorsport is going to contest the 2009 Formula 3 Euro Series season with the line-up Kevin Mirocha / Johnny Cecotto jr. Both young guns have been promoted from the ATS Formula 3 Cup.

Johnny Cecotto jr. is the son of Johnny Cecotto, the former Motorbike World Champion, Formula 1 ace and DTM driver. Last year, Cecotto junior contested the F3 Cup season with a Dallara-Mercedes entered by Austrian squad HS Technik Motorsport. And despite having replaced Philipp Eng only from the second race weekend of the season, the 19-year old finished third in the championship. He even scored as many points as the runner-up, his team-mate Sebastian Saveedra who contested the full season, but was defeated by the latter due to the bigger number of wins.

Cecotto knows his new team-mate, Kevin Mirocha, as they both raced in the Formula 3 Cup, last year. Mirocha was a Formula 3 rookie in 2008 and secured four podium finishes. At the end of the season, the Josef Kaufmann Racing driver who contested the season finale for Jo Zeller Racing finished sixth in the championship and came third in the rookie cup. When entering the F3 Cup, the young gun with Polish roots had just one year of single-seater-racing experience under his belt: in 2007, he had contested the Formula BMW Germany season.

In 2008, HBR Motorsport drivers Basil Shaaban and Daniel Campos-Hull scored just one team-championship point for the Austrian outfit. It goes without saying, that the Formula 3 Euro Series newcomers Johnny Cecotto and Kevin Mirocha are determined to do better, this year.
