Mortara confident ahead of Zandvoort

Mortara confident ahead of Zandvoort

09 July 2008

Edoardo Mortara is currently leading the F3 Euroseries Championship. Having scored 15 points more than Nico Hulkenberg who is in second place the Italian is confidently looking ahead of this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.

"I'm feeling quite calm and confident, but also realistic," said Mortara looking ahead of the weekend at Zandvoort. "As always, it's not going to be an easy race weekend as the opposition is very tough, and we are still in the early days of development of our Volkswagen engine. So we will do our best, but naturally we're not automatically expecting to win. If we can get on the podium that would be fantastic, but the principal objective is to hang onto, or preferably extend, our championship lead."

Even though Mortara is leading the championship by a mile the Italian has won just one race. It thought the Signature driver an important lesson in racing. "Championships are won through putting in consistent results, and this is foremost in my mind at the moment," he said. "My will to win is as strong as ever, but I have stepped back from the mentality that I have to win every race at all costs. Now I aim to win if it is possible, but if it is not possible then I am happy to step back and take whatever is achievable. I think I have become more focused and more tactical as a driver."
