Vietoris signed as third Mücke driver

27 February 2008

Christian Vietoris is going to contest the forthcoming Formula 3 Euro Series season for Team Mücke Motorsport. Last year, the 18-year old German contested the ATS Formula 3 Cup and finished fifth in the championship. Furthermore, he and his compatriot Nico Hülkenberg (ART Grand Prix) secured the A1 Grand Prix title for Team Germany, last winter.

Christian Vietoris made his first step on the single-seater racing career as early as at the age of 15: back in 2005, he made his debut in the Formula BMW. Following a difficult first season, he did far better in 2006. Having secured the German title, he also prevailed in the World finals, held at Valencia, Spain. And In both competitions, his new team-mate, Finland's Mika Mäki, finished runner-up.

Following these successes, Vietoris advanced to the ATS Formula 3 Cup together with the team that had helped him to succeed in Formula BMW: Josef Kaufmann Racing. He started the season with a Ligier Chassis but in mid-season, he switched to the proven Dallara car. At the end of the season, the man from the Eifel region had two race wins under his belt and finished fifth in the championship.

For two years now, he also has been a member of the German A1 Grand Prix squad. In the first season, he secured the title together with Nico Hülkenberg and in the current, he shares the cockpit with Michael Ammermüller. To date, the new Mücke signing made it once to the highest step of the A1 GP podium. With four more races to go, Team Germany still may hope to successfully defend its title.

"Just as his two team-mates, Mika Mäki and Eric Janis, Christian is a quick and talented racing driver. Compared to the other two, however, he enjoys a minor advantage: he already has got Formula 3 experience. I expect all the three drivers to improve consistently and secure a success, every now and then," Team Principal Peter Mücke says regarding his driver line-up.

The Formula 3 Euro Series season will be kicked of in mid-April (11th to 13th) at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg.
