Kimball joins Prema

The Prema Powerteam announced that American driver Charlie Kimball will joining their Formula 3 team to compete in the 2008 F3 Euro Series. Kimball will race along side returning driver Renger Van der Zande.

Kimball, originally from Southern California, has forged a high-profile Formula racing career: after debuting in the USA with Formula Barber Dodge and Formula Ford 2000, he grabbed the Formula Ford New Zealand title in 2004. He successfully transitioned across to Europe to enter the British Formula Ford Championship earning two race victories and a number of podiums. In 2005 he competed in British Formula 3 where he finished second in the championship, accruing 5 race victories and 2 lap records. Kimball also became the first American in 13 years to win a British Formula 3 race. In 2006 he competed in the F3 Euro Series, earning a victory in Zandvoort, the first win in the series by an American. Kimball competed in the World Series by Renault in 2007, a campaign that was cut short when Kimball was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

For the 2008 season, Kimball has returned his focus to the most valuable development series in Europe, joining Prema's ranks in a Mercedes-powered Dallara 308. The team welcomes Kimball, creating one of their strongest driver line-ups to date.
