Runner-up Buemi claims victory in final season round
14 October 2007With his third victory of the season, runner-up Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) bows out of the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the 4.574 kilometres long Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, the 18-year old Swiss won from Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus). For the Italian, second place was enough to win the rookie title in the world's toughest junior race series. Newly-crowned champion Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) finished third in the 20th season round and the 100th race in history of the Formula 3 Euro Series.
Mortara took the lead on the opening lap and retained this position until the 23rd lap. At the hairpin, he failed to hold off an attack from Buemi and dropped back behind the Mücke driver. He retained this position until the chequered flag came out. Thus, the Italian, who is living in Geneva, scored four podium finishes in his maiden season in Formula 3, more than any other rookie.
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) said: "It was a good start and I quickly moved up into second. Eventually, I was able to overtake Edoardo Mortara for the lead. For me, the race wasn't easy as I had lost my right rear-view mirror. Ending the season with a race win is always nice."
